Lake Annecy (feat. Lorphe) – FEARN

By Libby Driscoll

Teaming up with London based singer-songwriter Lorphe, folk artist and producer Fearn releases Lake Annecy, the initial piece from his latest working project.

Lake Annecy (feat. Lorphe) – FEARN

Though the collaboration was curated at different locations, the intimacy of the delicate folk track hasn’t suffered as a result. Both compositionally and lyrically, Lake Annecy encapsulates a safe kind of closeness within its warm elements.

“(Lake Annecy) explores the feeling of getting caught in initial stages of loving someone and the way that feeling floods your whole chest and body in a warm and all-encompassing way. You only want to see and be with them, and the swell of it feels uncontrollable, so you surrender yourself to it.”

Soft percussion welcomes you into the track as sustained, cavey synth pads lay the delicate foundations of the composition. Each layer of the track holds a truly airy atmosphere, allowing the listener to get lost within their own world of romance as Lake Annecy assists their inward journey.

What I find particularly special about the track is that it doesn’t ebb and flow in the strict sense of dramatic compositional build ups and smoother sections, but instead almost does it subliminally through creeping harmonies and more of an emotive level. Before you know it, you’ve delved so far within your wondering thoughts that the track has come to a gentle end and you’re hitting replay to experience its sheer loveliness all over again.

Lake Annecy is a wonderfully tranquil addition to your individual journey, providing a true cosiness to the turmoil of falling in love. Despite this being the first collaboration between Fearn and Lorphe, the result is parallel that of a team working with one another for years, and I hope to hear more from the pairing very soon.
