Clear Vinyl – Tonight

Emerging from the turmoil of 2020 with ‘Tonight’, Clear Vinyl’s latest release blends truth, live excitement and infectious grooves in a versatile alternative-pop track.

Returning with a slightly different tone to their previous releases, the five-piece band hold a newly exciting, honest emotion within ‘Tonight’. Resonant guitar chords welcome you into the track, with leading lyrics, “latched onto your heart, but I’m slowly giving up”, delicately commanding a profound ambience.

After a sonorant introduction, the track sees a surge of adrenaline, thickening the layers of the song with poppy on-the-beat drums and subtle yet, intricate guitar riffs that flower into a commanding indie-pop chorus. Distorted guitars and powerful vocals take centre stage in a maximalist chorus with, “tonight it’s just you and me, and you know, and you know it’s, all I ever want it to be”, sang in a catchy melody that’s crying out to be sang back by an audience. The differentiating guitar tones create an idyllic contrast during ‘Tonight’, keeping the electricity of the music vibrant whilst simultaneously incorporating emotive adlibs alongside.

The overall structure and composition of the song is well executed with every riff and texture fitting in its place comfortably. The amount of energy and passion pumped into the song definitely conjures an air of excitement focusing on friendship and makes us look forward to the return of live music even more. Speaking about the release of the track, lead guitarist Samuel Hutchinson explains, “We’ve been sat on this song for just over a year now, it’s odd really because it’s meaning seems to hit the spot now more than ever”.

‘Tonight’ is a staple release for the band. As they struggle with the dystopian weight of 2020, they carry the additional grief of losing their late drummer. Clear Vinyl played a tribute show to them at Sheffield’s The Leadmill last year, admirably raising over £4,000. Josh Feeley (Clear Vinyl vocalist) explained, “It’s been tough, but we all know he’d be so proud of this, it’s his drums on the track and he will always remain part of this band”.

‘Tonight’ will be released this coming weekend, but until then you can pre-save and keep up to date with the band’s socials below.
