Soran - Tired

By Libby Driscoll

Leaving 2021 with one last release of the year, Canadian alt-pop artist Soran releases an encounter with heartbreak with his newest single, Tired.

Soran - Tired

Tired takes the lax and comforting world of lo-fi into a darker, sorer space. Facing internal battles conjured through the ending of a relationship, the track highlights the ever-changing discomfort of adjusting to a new chapter of life.

The verses are written by the head, the chorus by the heart. I wanted to portray the constant back and forth and confusion that goes into one’s mind after a breakup.”

-       Soran on Tired

Soran’s lyrics constantly flit between expressively wishing for humble solutions, (“I wish I could’ve loved you better, I wish that we could start over, I wish that I could be what I could never be”) and reluctant acceptance (“I’m taking time off, and loving is the reason. It’s a ticking time bomb”). The narrative encapsulates the raw intensity of a recent break-up, repetitively questioning and bargaining with fate whilst reflecting on the relationship’s demise.

Musically, Soran’s alt-pop edge creeps in through a gloomier atmosphere. The energy travels with a serious edge, outlining the frustration and Tiredness, if you will, that rules the emotions of a separation. Reverberated spacey adlibs mimic fleeting thoughts that spin around a newfound hollowness, weaving through the darkness of an unusual feeling.

Tired reveals a more expressive side to what we have already seen from Soran. It shows him facing his emotions head on, laying himself raw for his fans to witness this once-concealed component. It seems like Soran has given his organic self to his fans, readying them for the upcoming journey of his debut album.
