Shout louder - common goldfish
By Thomas Bridger
After his debut track Feel the Fuzz, Tottenham-based Common Goldfish’s second release embraces the seasonal spirit with his feel-good summer anthem Shout Louder.
Reminiscent of Groove Armada, the use of 90’s break samples take you straight back to that era; from the bouncing 16th note drum pattern, to the funky syncopation in the bass and piano line. The two-major-chord progression used throughout creates that sense of wonder and euphoria. Added to this, the psychedelic tones from the synth and guitar elevate this feeling. Common Goldfish’s lyrics capture the essence of this track perfectly; “you know we’re in for one hell of a ride” and of course the repetition from the backing vocals of “Shout louder”.
Shout Louder has done exactly what it set out to do; upon listening to the track, one is immediately taken to a place of shared joy on a hot summer’s day, perhaps a festival, gig or a sunny road-trip with the windows down and the music blasting. There’s nothing profound about this track, what you hear is exactly what you get. And we love what we hear.
