Writer’s Rain - ‘Eleanor’

The air of sheer sincerity in Writer’s Rain’s upcoming single ‘Eleanor’ is a pin-drop piece exploring separation and closure, melting you with every word.

Writer’s Rain - Eleanor

The safe atmospheric music begins with a softly picked acoustic guitar surrounded by a warm air of subtle, synthesised ambience. The progression of the intro brings spot-lit vocals performed in a well-formed and softly alluring tone. As the track proceeds, we get a slow and steady swell of instrumentation that grows in substance, thickening up the track with minimalist glittery synths, reverb and creaky background ambience.

The vocals at the forefront of the track demonstrate articulate melodies whilst avoiding an over-composed sound. We can tell that there is more to the vocals than the track originally gives us, and as the instrumentation develops, the vocals too execute an impressive level of radiant power.

Typically, I’d comment on the lack of compositional and audio contrast, however there isn’t really much need for it in ‘Eleanor’. The whole structure of the track almost feels like an improvised train of thought- the emotion performed in the vocals is simply striking. The continuous guitar chords don’t feel repetitive as their simplicity allows them to act as a perfect accompaniment for the vocals by not taking attention away from them.

Closing the track with “I’d like to find the courage to judge you instead, but I’ll forget it by the morning, Eleanor” confirms a thought we’ve all had over a certain someone, conjuring memories of the past but ensuring us we’re not alone.

Though not one for dancing around the house to, ‘Eleanor’ is just unbelievably aesthetic. The way Writer’s Rain affects you purely through her vocals is seriously impressive and an absolute pleasure to experience. Check out her socials and pre-save ‘Eleanor’ below.
