YEИDRY - Se Acabó (ft. Mozart La Para)
By Thomas Bridger
Following her debut single El Diablo released on Sony/RCA, Dominican singer YEИDRY continues her rousing entrance into the Latin-pop scene with Se Acabó, in collaboration with freestyle rap artist Mozart La Para.
Latin-pop and reggaeton have heavily influenced the pop scene over the last decade or so, with songs such as Mi Gente and Despacito taking the charts by storm. Se Acabó is no different in this regard; it’s catchy, uplifting and generally emanates a feel-good, summery vibe. Filmed in YEИDRY’s hometown of Herrera, the striking visuals of the video compliment the nature of the song and emphasize the fact that YEИDRY is passionate about staying true to her eclectic roots.
Se Acabó begins with piano and guitar, laying down the chord sequence for the rest of the song. This is followed by vocals, of which YEИDRY’s exhilarating voice maintains interest throughout the track. Sang in Spanish, YEИDRY tells the empathetic (albeit slightly generic) story of her previous relationship, which at the time she felt was coming to an end.
The electronic drums help drive the song; the ‘Dembow’ beat is used in many other Latin-pop songs and has become almost synonymous with the new-age reggaeton genre. Mozart La Para’s freestyle rap enters around the 2-minute mark, providing a break in structure while still keeping to the flow of the song.
Only 3 minutes long, Se Acabó doesn’t change much, but it doesn’t need to. YEИDRY’s vocals carry the song, and she tells the story that she wants to. Although the track feels a little predictable at times, it gives off that electrifying feel-good vibe and would make a welcome addition to any summer playlist. With a collaborative album in the works, YEИDRY is certainly capable of reaching the charts this summer. We look forward to seeing if she does.
