Sage Harris ft. jagged edge - Let Me Know

By Libby Driscoll

Teaming up with the notorious R&B legends Jagged Edge, Sage Harris releases a rework of an old classic in his latest release, Let Me know.

Sage Harris ft. jagged edge - Let Me Know

With a change in style and title (originally released as Where the Party At? Ft. Nelly), the collaborative force of the artists takes ‘90s R&B and spins it with trap beats and mumble rap. After Harris was introduced to Jagged Edge via Markus Burns (producer of Real Housewives of Atlanta), the proposition of a collaboration between the two artists arose from Harris’ mentor, Preme.

“A dream come true is an understatement to how honoured I feel to have a legendary R&B group whom I've admired for my whole life share a song with me. I will forever be grateful and hope the world and R&B lovers feel the same way about the song as I did making it.”

Let Me Know offers the perfect level of nostalgia draped in a sleeky modern production; the cool attitude of R&B stays well and truly vibrant throughout its recent makeover, allowing its organic nature to flow into view two decades after its original release. The general tone of the track remains fairly lax and clearly linear, disregarding the need to offer something that strays from the integrity of the rework.

Though the nostalgic elements of the late ‘90s and early ‘00s are used as the gripping factors throughout Let Me Know, I can’t help but feel the track is missing a little more drama. Yes, the music feels cool to kick back to, but as a resurgence piece for Jagged Edge it would have been valuable to really kick a newfound excitement into gear alongside its nostalgic edge, perhaps offering something a little more outrageous than accessible trap beats.

Let Me Know entwines the old and the new in both the R&B and trap scene, proving that your peak doesn’t mean you can’t rise to the top once more. The track certainly displays a slick bond between the artists, and hopefully Let Me Know has laid the groundwork for a smooth collection of collaborative works in the future.
