Working independently from inside of her bedroom, Nora Lilith has pushed far beyond the limits of your average aspiring music producer and set a whole new standard for the DIY music scene with her new EP Daysof8.

Lilith’s EP is unusual, intriguing, and reminiscent of multiple genres. It’s clear that while taking inspiration from many artists, Daysof8 was written with no specific genre or style in mind. This, in turn, has left Lilith with an entirely blank canvas; a situation that musicians rarely find themselves in, who are usually confined to the boundaries of their chosen style. The result? A rich tapestry of lo-fi beats ranging from R&B and house to pop and jazz.
The title track of the EP, Daysof8 is driven by the trap-style beat that is heard throughout the song. The busy hi-hat patterns fill the gaps in an otherwise sparsely scored song. Along with the vocals, bass and tasteful use of plugins and electronic sounds, not much else is needed to make this track a captivating precursor for the rest of the EP.
My personal favourite track from the EP, Wake, is an excellent showcase for Nora Lilith’s voice. Sang in an almost Billie Eilish-esque fashion, this piece differs so greatly from the rest of the EP, and is one of the main reasons I couldn’t put a label on the genre of Daysof8. Much like the rest of the EP, it is sparsely scored, allowing Nora Lilith’s voice to shine through, accompanied by the piano.
Overall, Daysof8 is an outstanding display of not only Nora Lilith’s creativity, but her willingness to explore different kinds of timbral and structural idioms. She doesn’t just think outside the box, she kicks that box away and starts over again. Racking up a total of over 100,000 spotify listeners, she acts as an inspiration for any aspiring music producer.
