Noelle - Hope You’re Happy

By Liv Moseley

After the existing string of releases from the breakout Canadian popstar Noelle, comes the spacey track Hope You're Happy, working as a final look inside of her upcoming debut album set for release next year.

Noelle - Hope You’re Happy

Taking a twist on the typical break up anthem, Noelle, along with Joel Stouffer, Geoff Warburton and Nathan Ferraro, co-wrote the empowering track outside of her bedroom in a studio in Toronto. Noelle expresses her feelings of vengeance in Hope You're Happy, and dives into the ideals of not wishing your ex well.

“Hope You’re Happy was a really unique song for me to write. I’m so passionate about creating sad ballads about love, but I wanted this one to be more powerful for the listener. We’ve all been faced with the situation of seeing someone we loved with a new person and while we want to take the high road, sometimes vengeance is the real emotion that stirs within us”, says the twenty-one-year-old singer.

Beyond that, Noelle’s astounding vocals within the song creates the bitter sweet contrast of perfection and anger, tying up her feelings within the track. Walking away from a relationship you know isn’t right for you can be a confusing time emotionally for anyone, and the music video perfectly displays this. The dramatic nature and dark settings within the visuals of the video certainly display the physicality of heartbreak.

“Shooting this video allowed me to stand in my power, thinking about every person who has had to walk away from a relationship that wasn’t working for them. To me, smashing that mirror signifies the destruction of what was and a return to yourself, finally letting go of the person who was holding you back.”
