How does it taste? - Mickey nomimono
By Liv Moseley
Providing a fast paced, punk-esque track shining a light on suburban living, How Does it Taste? is Sheffield’s own Mickey Nomimono’s third instalment for us. And what a treat it is…
As a recent rising artist, Mickey Nomimono is no stranger to the Sheffield music scene. After providing his hometown with a bunch of chaotic live gigs, the people of Yorkshire and beyond are growing very fond of Nomimono’s headbanging prescence, seeing an appearance from him at the iconic Yellow Arch’s 25th anniversary party, the Washington and the Leadmill, and not forgetting the sunflower lounge in Birmingham.
Keeping things close to home, the track features guest vocals from the frontman of Drastic//Automatic Sean Hession, a chaotic Sheffield punk band, who garnishes the new-wave track beautifully, as well as the up and coming Sheffield DJ and producer Soph. With a frenetic energy from the get go, Nomimono once again radiates his scathing DIY punk energy that we can’t get enough of. The track is a fusion of a head banging, guitar-lead beat, and cutting lyricism that delves into the honesty of Nomimono’s life. He touches on the struggles of suburban living, and the limits that comes with it, compared to that of living in the city. Highlighting a lack of money and a loss of resources, he speaks up on the struggle of making choices, when life is so limited.
Regardless of the touchingly brutal problems he boldly addresses, Nomimono inspires us with persistence, as his optimism dominates the distressing nature of his vision behind the track. With a view to finishing his debut album set for release in 2023, we hope to see more of this addictive energy carried in to his future work. So, how does it taste?
