Hitting true-to-the-facts of humble beginnings and shining light on realism in a working class world, DHL is the second release from 25-year-old DIY electro-punk musician, Mickey Nomimono.

The single (alongside his debut) shows off Mickey’s high capabilities of effectively integrating an effortlessly infectious flow of electronics with the straight-talking and vexed side of punk. His latest track is an exclamation on the struggles of working unruly hours in order to just scrape by, speaking loud to the hearts of those who have felt the increasing strains of inflation in the heat of recovering from a global pandemic.

The beginning of the song sees Mickey reveal a successfully undemanding starter of synthesisers that instigates a pumped up energy from the get go, which is only then set to enhance with the introduction of his deeply communicable spoken rap lyrics. As honest and forthright as the meaning behind the lyrics is, I can't help but note a value of comedic irony within them, especially notable as the catchy chorus hits stating the names of big branded warehouse companies, inflamed over the fact of low wage payments. Mickey manages to portray the hard hitting and down to earth significance behind his words in a tuneful and humorous manner. All the while, retaining a memorable melodic beat that's dispensed within the rhythmic synths of his music, allowing you to absorb the weight of the song in an impressive, ‘find yourself rapping along to the lyrics' upbeat kind of way.
It’s safe to say DHL is a favourably authentic hit and as for what’s next on the agenda for Mickey, you can catch him at multiple venues throughout Sheffield as support this September before headlining his own show in October and from what I hear, his enthusiastic personality on stage is not something to be missed.
