BTNB - Big Tits No Bra
By Libby Driscoll
Fiercely demonstrating a contagious no-fucks-given attitude, BTNB release their debut single Big Tits No Bra off their upcoming Challenge 25 EP…
Fronted by vocalist Mione Million, BTNB’s long anticipated debut single has been tailored to leave an unforgettable impression of the new group. Talking to FLARE about their decision to release Big Tits No Bra as their debut, Million tells us,
“Ultimately we’ve gone for “Big Tits No Bra” and the decision was actually inspired by Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. In the film, the main band reminds the crowd of their band name every time they perform a song and with "We Are Sex Bob-Omb" it makes it almost impossible to forget it. That’s what we’re doing with “‘Big Tits No Bra”. Sure, you might see it abbreviated to BTNB, but who we are is LITERALLY in the song title.”
There are many factors that, perhaps subjectively, make a track a more notable composition, and with Big Tits No Bra, the factor in question is the fact that it is unapologetically, undoubtedly itself. The sheer attitude doesn’t mask itself behind pseudo lyricism or overcompensated tones to achieve its electric punky spark. Stylistically, the influences of ‘nineties grunge can be felt weaving amongst California rock through a clean production that works surprisingly well with its grittier style.
Opening the track with “hit the streets, got puke on the toilet seats. Straight to the bar, punched in the nose and I’m seeing stars”, from the off cements its alternative theme. Hooked throughout the track are the lyrics “If I wanted to be someone yeah I would be”, which perfectly showcases the vocalist’s fearless attitude to their perception. The craft and care within both the lyricism and the instrumentation projects a renewed air of confidence that is typically a rare find within debut singles, but it’s clear that BTNB know exactly who they are, and what they’re about from the start.
“I think it goes without saying that the first single is significant for any music artist or group. You’re introducing yourself. Sure, we have other tracks that we could have led with, but if we’re going to introduce ourselves we want to be explicit, be loud and really ANNOUNCE who we are so you remember the name.” (Mione Million, BTNB)
It takes no effort for me to say that this is an unbelievable debut single for the band. Big Tits No Bra is absolutely capable of achieving anthemic status proceeding its release in the coming weeks, and I for one, am very excited to see the energy that BTNB bring to the live music scene we’re all so keen to delve back into.
