B. Fisher – Another Height

Already carrying an impressive discography dating from 2017, the alternative hip-hop artist has an array of experience when it comes to creating slick genre hybrids. Heavily utilising themes of lo-fi and bedroom jazz, the modern sounds radiating from B. Fisher’s music certainly holds a hard-wearing, accessible appeal.

Another Height is no exception to this; from the beginning of the track, you’re hit with heavily panned synth melodies shrouded in a trippy atmosphere. Grounded by the addition of a rhythmic unit of shakers, the alternative stylistic texture feels refreshing for this kind of music, where you’d be unsurprised if you were met with basic, programmed standard beats instead.

Explaining his inspiration behind the track, Fisher tells us, “While Another Height is rather energetic, I made it from a place of peace and trust. As captured in the chorus, I'm answering my own questions. For me, creating this song has been really motivating to continue my growth.”

The original vocal section feels somewhat jolty, but I feel like this is the intention of B. Fisher, as again, the song doesn’t quite travel in the direction you’d expect it to. The course of the song is unusual, but not at all unpleasant, almost as if it throws a satisfying curve ball at every corner. Once you really get into the flow of the song, it begins to make more sense as you can pick out the influence of trap, alternative pop and hip-hop along the way. What I really love about Another Height is the fact it’s always busy. There isn’t one point in the song where a detail has been left untouched- there’s always something of substance to dig your ears into.

Another Height is an exciting single from B. Fisher and a strong start to his 2021 career. Through his explorative style already being heavily apparent throughout his past releases, I’m impressed that he has managed to keep his sound so fresh and so relevant with each hit.
